April 7th Team Meeting

The goal of the April 7th team meeting:

  1. Choose a problem or goal to which we can apply design methodologies
  2. Generate four ideas to solve the problem or reach the goal
  3. Apply two methodologies in Creativity steps to each of the four ideas generated to reach the goal or solve the problem.
  4. What would the end user think?

April 7th team meeting notes:

1. We discussed four possible ideas for our overall problem or goal:

  • How might we create a more satisfying cable television experience for end users
  • How might we create a sports equipment rental interface for non-merchant, individual-to-individual rentals
  • How might we create differentiation and competitive advantage for music instruction services to be provided in Dallas, Texas
  • How might we create a relaxing, judgement-free, and yet upscale and decadent customer experience involving the sale and consumption of wine and cupcakes

We decided to use “How might we create differentiation and competitive advantage for music instruction services to be provided in Dallas, Texas?”

2. We discussed ideas for how we might create differentiation and competitive advantage for music instruction services to be provided in Dallas, Texas, including:

  • all services and instruction provided completely online
  • partnering with inner-city schools and receiving some level of non-profit status
  • during-lesson entertainment options for family or friends of the person taking lessons (wine, cupcakes, coffee shop, bar, group art lessons, pottery class)
  • a physical location near a corporate location with large number of employees (potential students/customers)
  • elderly students/customers (retirement homes, nursing homes, assisted living)
  • focus on untapped skill levels
  • using a membership concept (similar to gym membership concept)
  • using a rental interface for musical instruments (and perhaps more?)

We each chose one idea to which we will apply two methodologies:

  • Anna A.: all services and instruction provided completely online
  • Stephen: partnering with inner-city schools and receiving some level of non-profit status
  • Anna S.: using a membership concept (similar to gym membership concept)
  • Keith: using a rental interface for musical instruments (and perhaps more?)

3. We will each apply the following two methodologies from Creativity steps to our idea:

  • Empathetic Design as Used by IDEO
  • 4 P’s of Marketing

4. Our research and methodology updates will be added as posts as well as our thoughts on what the end user might think.  We decided to make two posts each before the next meeting at 5:00pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
